At some Laco models, especially the PRO series, you have the choice between an undecorated or decorated movement. But what is the difference between these two variants?
The decoration (or also finissage / fine finishing) of movements, first appeared with pocket watches of the 19th century. Until today, the various decorations and finishes are considered a feature of high-quality timepieces, as they provide a very special aesthetic of the movement. Particularly common forms of finishing are cuts, polishes, engravings, thermally blued screws or a skeletonization, for example of the rotor.
The surface finishing techniques make the movement a visual highlight, but do not affect the technical functions or features of the movement.
At Laco, the decoration depends on the type of movement:
Automatic winding movement:
At the decorated automatic movement, the surface of the plate, as well as the bridges, are decorated with a so-called pearl finish (also called perlage). This decoration consists of a uniform pattern, which is created by numerous, slightly overlapping grinding points. In addition, the screws are elaborately thermally blued.
Hand winding movement:
At the decorated hand-wound movement, the bridges are decorated with what is known as ribbon cutting, also known as Geneva stripes. These even, parallel lines are probably one of the best-known finishing techniques, as each stripe must be ground individually. Ratchet wheel, as well as crown wheel have a sunburst finish, which runs from a central point outward in radial stripes. As with the automatic movement, there is also a perlage on the plate, as well as thermally blued screws.

Other
The following table provides an overview of various water resistance scenarios based on the rating of your watch.
Pressure | Splashed water | Showering | Bathing | Swimming or snorkling | diving |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
3 ATM | Yes | No | No | No | No |
5 ATM | Yes | No | Yes | No | No |
10 ATM | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
20 ATM | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Good to know: The indication "3 ATM or 30 m water-resistant" means that the watch can withstand a test pressure of 3 bar, but it is not suitable for diving up to 30 meters. In practice, it only protects against splashes and is not suitable for swimming or showering, as the pressure in these situations can be higher, allowing water to penetrate the watch.
Tip: Water resistance is not a permanent feature. Therefore, it is recommended to have the watch's water resistance checked regularly, ideally once a year.

Every "Erbstück" (heirloom) watch is a handmade unique item. This means that even though all watches look very similar, every single piece has individual signs of aging.
We offer three different levels of aging:
• Level 1: The watch only has slight signs of aging, the watch case has no or only very small scratches or grooves.
• Level 2: The "standard" version has normal scratches and aging characteristics which can be seen on the pictures on our website. If you do not submit a level selection, you will receive this level.
• Level 3: The watch has strong signs of aging. The level 3 aging has the same features of level 2, but with broken out parts of the lumious material of the hands. Please note that the readability of the watch is reduced when choosing due to reduced luminous material.
The "Erbstück" watches are produced at level 2 by default. If you prefer a different level of aging, please give us a short notice in the comment field when submitting your order. If level 1 or 3 is selected the delivery time may take longer, because the components are made specifically according to your requests. Feel free to contact us to ask about the current delivery time for these options.

Super-LumiNova® consists of luminous pigments that are comparable to small "light batteries." These pigments recharge in both natural and artificial light. In the dark and at night, their stored energy is converted into glowing, long-lasting light. As a result, these pigments make it easy to read the time on your watch—even in the dark. Superluminova can be charged an infinite number of times, and never loses its glowing efficiency over time.
First developed in the early 1990s, Superluminova is currently manufactured by the Swiss company RC TRITEC AG (among others). The technology is an extremely important element of the watch industry, and is used by renowned manufacturers worldwide. In order to improve readability in poor lighting conditions, it is used to cover numerals, indexes, hands, or entire dials.
Unlike radioactive luminous materials such as tritium, Superluminova is non-toxic and safe to use. A tritium-based luminous material is radioactive, which means special safety precautions must be taken before it can be handled or discarded. Superluminova provides for a safe and environmentally-friendly alternative, without compromising on performance or brightness.

There are several types of Superluminova luminous pigments that not only differ in terms of their color, but also the duration and intensity of their glow. Laco only uses 100% Swiss-made pigments made by RC TRITEC AG.
Superluminova C3
Superluminova C3 is the brightest of all the Superluminova pigments, and used on most of Laco's pilot watches. This Superluminova is known for its outstanding luminosity. In daylight, this luminous material is usually yellowish-green due to the special additives that are added to the pigment mixture to achieve maximum luminosity in the dark.
Superluminova C1
Superluminova C1 is barely recognizable as a source of light in daylight as it appears pure white. In the dark and at night, it takes on a shiny white to slightly bluish hue. Superluminova C1 is significantly less luminous than other types (such as Superluminova C3).
Fact: Superluminova C1 was deliberately chosen for watches that comply with DIN 8330, as this German standard only allows for certain colors on the bezel and dial. Superluminova C3—which is usually used on Laco's pilot watches—would not be suitable for these watches. With Superluminova C1, we can create watches that meet the requirements of DIN 8330, all the while glowing with clear, pure white light both day and night.
Superluminova BGW9
Although Superluminova BGW9 shines less brightly than Superluminova C3 at night (around 5% less), it remains lit for longer than Superluminova C1 and C3. In daylight, BGW9 is usually pure white like Superluminova C1. As a result, it doesn't really stand out during the day. At night, it provides for a bluish glow.
At Laco, we use BGW9 on our Augsburg Gray and Aachen Gray watches.
Superluminova Orange und Dark Orange
These two colors are not quite as common as the types mentioned above. Both are characterized by their orange color during the day and in the dark, but they shine less brightly than the previously mentioned types.
Superluminova Orange is made unique by its bright orange color in the dark. In daylight, it can also have a bright orange hue depending on the amount and composition of its pigment.
Compared to Superluminova Orange, Dark Orange is a much more subdued type. In the dark, it glows a deeper shade of orange that is subtler and less conspicuous.
Laco uses both of these orange luminous materials as highlights and to distinguish the colors of certain elements, such as those on our sports watches and watches with a GMT function.
